Milwaukee will spend $1.56 million in federal stimulus funds next year to replace the S. 6th St. bridge over the Kinnickinnic River and jump-start the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District's proposed $40 million flood-control plan for the stream, officials said.
After the new bridge is in place, the district plans to begin removing concrete on the river bed and widening its channel from S. 6th St. downstream to S. Chase Ave., said David Fowler, senior project manager for MMSD. The channel work might be done in late 2010 or early 2011.
